Today we are going to make a very tasty, light and healthy Indian recipe; that is parantha. It’s a Dal ka Parantha recipe. This dal parantha or parantha roti is among one of an easy indian recipes and I have made these paranthas from leftover dal. You can use any type of prepared dal,it can be either leftover or freshly cooked.

Unlike any other parantha like; stuffed parantha like – aloo parantha, gobhi parantha, palak parantha, onion parantha, paneer parantha, aloo gobhi parantha or laccha paranta or plain parantha, this parantha has a very different taste and is very light and healthy recipe which can be prepared within 10 minutes.

It can be served in kid’s lunch box or in breakfast with masala dahi, achar or chutney. Today I have served this parantha with lehsun kachre ki chutney and its recipe is given in my website.

Ingredients

  • Whole wheat flour 5 cups
  • Left over dal ½ cup or as required
  • Onions (finely chopped) ½ cup
  • Green chili 1 finely chopped
  • Chopped coriander 1 tbsp
  • Cumin seeds (Zeera)    ½ tsp
  • Homemade Garam Masala ½ tsp
  • Salt according to taste
  • Red chili powder ½ tsp
  • Chickpea powder (besan) 3 tbsp
  • Kasuri methi 1 tsp
  • Dry mint leaves (pudhina) ½ tsp
  • Oil 2 tsp + more for frying

Method

  1. Mix together flour, onions, green chili, chopped coriander, cumin seeds, homemade garam masala powder, salt, red chili powder, besan, kasuri methi, pudhina and oil.
  2. Add enough dal little by little and knead a stiff dough. Do not add water, knead the dough with dal.
  3. Take small portion of dough and roll it into thin chapatti by applying dry flour.
  4. Cook the chapatti on hot tava until few brown spots appear on both sides. Keep the flame between medium to low.
  5. Apply oil or butter on both sides and fry until golden from both sides.
  6. Serve hot dal ka parantha with dahi, achar or chutney.
